Crawl Space Radon Mitigation

Crawl space and mixed-foundation radon mitigation

Older Omaha homes and additions often sit on a crawl space, or on a mix of basement, slab and crawl space. These homes need a different approach. Describe your foundation and get a free written estimate.

Covered under crawl space radon mitigation

  • Sub-membrane depressurization
  • Sealed heavy-duty vapor barrier
  • Combined systems for basement + crawl space homes
  • Dirt-floor and partial basements
  • Sealing of crawl space openings to the living area

How crawl space radon systems work

When there is no concrete slab to drill through, the installer covers the crawl space floor with a heavy plastic membrane, seals it to the foundation walls and piers, and connects a vent pipe and fan under the membrane. The fan pulls soil gas from beneath the plastic and vents it above the roof, the same principle as a sub-slab system.

Homes with more than one foundation type

A basement under the original house with a crawl space under an addition is common in Omaha. Each area may need its own suction point, tied into one fan where possible. Mention every foundation type in your request so the estimate covers the whole house.

Frequently asked questions

Will a vapor barrier alone fix radon?

A barrier by itself usually isn’t enough. Active suction under the membrane is what reliably lowers radon. Ask your contractor what they recommend after a site visit.

Can I still use my crawl space for storage?

Usually, yes, but heavy items and foot traffic can damage the membrane. Discuss storage needs during the estimate.
